Charny (77410) is located 6.5 km north-east of Claye-Souilly and 10 km west of Meaux.
Located in the middle of a large fertile plain, Charny, like the neighboring villages, attracts farmers very early and, at the beginning of our era, Gallo-Roman villas are established there. In the Middle Ages, the territory is divided between several fiefs, which have since become farms: Beauvais, Maupertuis or Rabaches. Shortly after the foundation of their order, the Knights Templar established near the village, in a place called Soisy or Choisy, a commandery whose existence is attested from 1168. Charny lives in the shadow of the latter and in a act of 1491, the village is even named Chary-lez-Choisy, Charny near Choisy. In the fifteenth century, this area consists of a "beautiful building with chapel and forty acres (about 15 hectares) surrounded by walls flanked nine turrets with six hundred acres (about 230 hectares) of land around."
